en horo

The “en horo” vocal ensemble made its first appearance in 1997 when Thessaloniki was appointed Cultural Capital of Europe. The ensemble was founded by its current director Kostis Papazoglou. In April that year, the “en horo” premiered in Greece two rare works: the “Missa Dolorosa” and “Magnificat” by Antonio Caldara. It was accompanied by the Concerto Conservatorio orchestra and distinguished soloists of the Athenian Opera, as well as by musicians from Ars Antigua Austria (Vienna).

Since then, the “en horo” has produced and recorded various programmes in Thessaloniki, performing at the Ceremony Hall of the Aristotle University, “Aneton” theatre, the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, etc. The ensemble has executed works by great composers such as H. Schütz, J.S. Bach and others. In April 2003, “en horo” held the Greek premiere of the “595 Dixit Dominus” by A. Vivaldi accompanied by the Kalamaria Symphony Orchestra. The ensemble has taken part in concerts of the Cultural Olympiad and the “para thin’ alos” festival. In 2018, “en horo” performed the programme “Voci della via Egnatia” in Rome, which explores historically and musically the cities connected by the ancient Egnatia road.

The ensemble focuses on the interpretation of religious music as well as premieres of contemporary music works, mainly by Greek composers.
